ABOUT THE PRACTICE

Disposable plastic has such a short shelf life, yet it doesn't disappear. That paradox sits at the heart of my practice. I make sculptures from discarded plastic bottles that resemble the very nature they invade—roots, leaves, marine life. The plastic mimics organic life while the natural materials decay, as every living thing must. One pretends to be alive. The other is, and will transform.

Movement matters to me. How plants respond to wind, how roots grow in directions you can't predict, how currents pull things in unseen ways. Most pieces carry this sense of motion, something caught mid-change. The reflections these pieces cast on the wall are just as important as the sculpture itself—shadows that feel like memories of something fading.

I believe in a strong concept. A good story. Years of creative work taught me that without those, nothing else matters. Each piece begins with one. Inspiration drawn from the materials themselves, the spaces they inhabited, the people I met and their stories. Art is how I tell them.

Materials are gathered from two sources: discarded plastic bottles collected locally, cleaned and prepared by cutting and heat-forming; and natural materials sourced from the landscapes that inspire me—branches, bones, shells, twigs, abandoned oars, broken benches. I do not pre-plan every detail. Instead, I work responsively, allowing the materials to suggest form as I assemble them.
